Above all, their friend wanted to be authentic, they said, and no one could doubt that he had been. This was no small thing.

His death was terribly sad, and yet there was also perfection about it.

Micah True died while running through a magnificent wilderness, and then many of his closest friends came together to search for him, stepping through the same alluring canyons and forests and streams, again and again calling out his name.

Review: Coriolanus (Drama, 2012)

If you have a chance to see this film, I highly recommend it. The dialogue can be a bit challenging, but you always understand the message conveyed. I predict Oscar noms for Ralph Fiennes (acting/directing), Brian Cox (supporting actor) and Vanessa Redgrave (supporting actress). Really superb acting.

The Mystery of Why Marine Noah Pippin Went AWOL

He was a proud Marine who survived three brutal tours in Iraq and had plans to redeploy with the national guard. But when 30-year-old Noah Pippin vanished inside Montana’s remote Bob Marshall Wilderness, he left behind a trail of haunting secrets—and a mystery that may never be solved.

This article will certainly go on my Best of 2012 list, for a variety of reasons. I’ve taken two trips to the Bob Marshall Wilderness via Hungry Horse and Spotted Bear, so this is familiar territory. This is also an important story about the hidden wounds our military veterans are struggling to heal.

Review: Into the Abyss (Documentary, 2012)

Werner Herzog has become one of my favorite directors, and he doesn’t disappoint in this chilling and surprisingly even-handed documentary about a series of related, horrific crimes. The convicted, as well as the families of the victims, are interviewed in depth. There are no easy answers. Provided below is the trailer.

Drive (2011, Drama): 4/5 I really enjoyed the movie, mostly because of the aesthetic. It seemed obvious that the filmmakers were heavily influenced by the work of Michael Mann (Manhunter, To Live & Die in LA, Heat), which is a good thing in my opinion.

Blues Funeral: The Mark Lanegan Band

Just purchased this album, which will most certainly be on my Top 10 list at the end of the year.

The difference between you and I is that you likely view this as satire; I view this as a vitally important parenting how-to. Remember, JarJar killed grandma.
