Hack: How to Remember Your Lock’s Combination
How often have you needed to use a combination lock, only to realize that you forgot or misplaced the combination? If you’re like me you end up with a drawer full of useless locks. A couple years ago Lifehacker offered up a brilliant solution, which I use to this day. Here are the basics:
- Add the first two numbers from your birth date (e.g, 01-02-03) to the first two numbers from lock combination (e.g., 10-15-20).
- Repeat with the two subsequent sets of numbers (02 + 15, 03 + 20) to come up with the a new series that is the sum of both, which in our example would be 11-17-23.
- Write this number on a piece of tape and stick it to the back of your lock.
- Voila!
If you happen to forget the real combo you only need to recall your date of birth to unlock it.
